Necessity and Passion as Motivators

We heard many times that Necessity is the mother of invention.  Besides necessity there is another driving force for success ‘Passion’.  Necessity and passion together change the dynamics of achievement.  If a person feels necessity for achievement considers situation, opportunity and time as essential tools, and devise a plan wisely with passion, sure the achievement is well scripted and guaranteed.

Necessity ultimately inspires one towards the goal of achievement.  A young boy doesn't want to take cold water bath even when his mother tries to convince him with love and affection.  But the same boy if he gets his cloths dirty by paying in muddy play ground, would have no second thoughts to take cold water bath.  The desire dominates his comfort priorities as the necessity to be clean drives him to do so.

A young boy lost both his eyes while playing.  He could see no more.  He realized that he depends lifelong on others and he wanted to study to rid of his vulnerable situation.  He wanted to overcome the blindness with his hands.  He started thinking differently day and night.  The necessity and passion lead him to invent a unique way to study. He ultimately made the script which could be understood by touch.  Yes the boy was Lewis Brailey and he gave the world a new script that became the light for the blind.

At times a mere request from others becomes necessity.  And if passion joins this mere necessity, it unveils the new era of mysteries.  University of Taxila (c. 6th Century B.C.) was famous for imparting medical sciences along with metaphysics and mathematics. Jeevaka studied medicine for seven years and the time had come to test his proficiency. Upon completing Ayurveda studies he wanted to pay gurudakshina (gift to professor) to his mentor teacher. His teacher gave him a spade and pick axe and asked him to examine every plant growing around Taxila for a Yojana (tweleve miles) and bring a plant which has no medicinal value. Jeevaka obeyed and examined every plant (specified) and reported after three years that he did not find any plant which had no medicinal property. The teacher was satisfied that Jeevaka had become adept.  He apologized to the sage saying that he was unable to pay gurudakshina he didn’t find a plant without any medical values and requested him to ask for some other gift.  The sage told Jeevaka that he had got his gift with his answer itself as he made research on numerous plants and brought them to public benfit.

If the necessity drives one towards a cause with passionate intentions, it always brings great revelations to the world and mankind.
